Description

This project will be accomplished through the use of a stewardship contract, which authorizes BLM to enter into a service contract allowing for the value of vegetative material removed to be applied as an offset against the cost of services received (Public Law 108-7). The purpose of this contract is to provide services for fuels reduction and forest health. The project objectives are: 1) Thinning from below to favor larger diamteter ponderosa pine trees and remove the smaller and weaker trees; 2) Reduce the average crown bulk density (crown fuels) by spacing crowns of leave trees; 3) Increase the average crown base height (ladder fuels) by thinning out small trees; 4) Treat activity generated fuels and natural fuels by using one of, or a combination of the follow methods; a) whole tree yarding and piling slash; b) mastication; c) chipping; d) bull hog treatment. Location of the this project: Approximately four (4) miles south of the town of Lead, South Dakota. A Site Visit has been scheduled for: Tuesday, August 2, 2005, at 9:00 a.m. Participants will meet at: The Twin City Mall parking lot, 145 Glendale Dr., Lead, South Dakota. Potential offerors are to provide their own transportation at no cost to the Government. The Government assumes no liability on behalf of offerors attending the site visit. Offerors intending to attend the site visit tour shall contact Dennis Bucher (605-892-7004) or e-mail dbucher@blm.gov at least 48 hours before the scheduled site visit and advise him of the firm's name and number of persons that will attend. The Request for Proposals solicitation will be available on or about July 21, 2005. See Numbered Notes 1.
