- The U.S. Army, Office of the Project Manager, Maneuver Ammunition Systems, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ is investigating the use of a material to produce a 40mm High Velocity M385A1 one-piece training practice projectile. The investigation consists of selecting a material that will resist the effects of extreme temperatures, high humidity and the rigors of being cycled through and launched from a Mk19 Mod 3 Grenade Machine Gun. The design must meet the physical properties of the M385A1 (Drawings 8866714 and 8866715), and must match the ballistics of the current M385A1 projectile at a reduced cost.The material must be integrally pigmented blue to denote for training purposes. Respondents must be capable of facilitating the material selection based on given parameters and constraints, the tailoring of the material formulation, the fabricating of required tooling, the manufacturing of prototype parts,the 100% inspection of the prototype parts and the shipping of the prototype parts to Picatinny. Respondent must be capable of delivering prototype parts and a comprehensive report within 6 months from contract award.
