Description
The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) is seeking potential sources of supply to produce and field the Army's All Terrain Lifter, Army System II (ATLAS II) in Fiscal Year 2006. The program has recently been re-started. The purp ose of this announcement is to provide offerors advance notification of our intentions to procure the ATLAS II and identify interested offerors. The schedule and technical requirements are subject to change. A draft Purchase Description (PD) and Question naire will be posted on the ATLAS II website in approximately 30 days to gather industry input. The Army intends to procure 600 to 1,000 new ATLAS II forklifts. The ATLAS II is a C-130 air transportable variable reach rough terrain vehicle with a maximum load capacity of 10,000 lbs. Its primary missions include handling all classes of supply, inserting and extracting 40 inch X 48 inch pallets from various army co ntainers, transloading palletized loads between transportation modes, and handling Air Force 463L pallets weighing up to 10,000 lbs. The technical requirements, to include lift capacities at variable reaches for the new ATLAS II, are contained in the draf t PD on the ATLAS II website. The Government has not finalized its approach for meeting the armor requirements contained in the ATLAS II PD. TACOM intends on addressing this issue in the follow-on questionnaire. Also, industry is invited to comment on any issues in the ATLAS II draft PD. TENTATIVE SCHEDULE: TACOM intends on publishing a draft Request for Proposal in 1st quarter Fiscal Year 2006, releasing the ATLAS Request For Proposal before the beginning of the 2nd quarter Fiscal Year 2006, and awarding before the end of the 3rd quarter Fiscal Year 2006.
