Description
The purpose of this Sources Sought/Market Research is to identify potential sources capable of manufacturing the MK64-2 Projectile Body. Production of the 5 inch 54 caliber MK4-2 projectile body requires complex operations and sophisticated industri al capabilities. This is a forged steel projectile body 5 inch in diameter, 21.3 inches long and weighs 57.25 pounds. The general production process is complex with over 31 processes in the operation. Steel is cut, heated, forged, rough turned, band swa ged, heat treated, finish turned, inspected and surface finished. The MK64-2 projectile body is a critical component of the 5 inch 54 caliber platform, which is on the Navy's Critical Items List. Critical Skills/Processes: Producers must have either rotary or induction furnaces to heat mults for forging. Long stroke high tonnage, backward extrusion hydraulic forging presses. They must have high volume oil quench heat teat and anneal capability, n osing press capability. Extensive machining (4-axis CNC equipment) for both rough turn and finish turn operations. The producer must have both destructive and non-destructive testing capability to include ultrasonic testing. The facility must have band pressing equipment. In addition a complete tooling capability must be present to maintain production. Critical skills required include engineers, billet heating, forge operators, computer numerically controlled programming, machining, production manageme nt and ultrasonic testing inspection operators. The technical data package (TDP) is classified as Distribution D limited distribution. Distribution Statement D means that the TDP cannot be distributed on the Internet. This TDP contains technical data whose import is restricted by the arms export contr ol act, (Title 22, U.S.C., SEC 27 51 ET SEQ.) or the Export Administration Act of 1979, as amended titled, 50 U.S.C. Offerors must be registered with the U.S./Canada Joint Certification Office to obtain a copy of the top two drawings (see www.dlis.dla.mil/jcp/ for instructions and information). After receipt of required certification, request a copy of the top two drawings via email to thompsong@afsc.army.mil, request MUST include Cage Code, Company Name, Address, Phone, Email address and point of contact. A respondent to this Market Survery must have available the facilities and skills required to manufacture the MK64-2 Projectile Body. Interested U.S./Canadian firms who feel they are capable of manufacturing IAW applicable TDP MK64-2 Projectile Bodies are invited to indicate their interest by providing the Government a brief summary of their company's capabilities, including a brief description of facilities, personnel and past manufacturing experience as it relates to the above criteria. Information mus t be submitted to: HQ, AFSC, ATTN: AMSFS-CCA-M/Gail Thompson, Bldg 350 6th floor Pole E10, 1 Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, IL 61299-6500.
