- Description
- Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) invites expressions of interest for the supply of 18 identical toroidal field (TF) coil assemblies for the National Compact Stellarator Experiment (NCSX) project. Each assembly consists of a D-shaped coil with a wedge-shaped support piece attached to the straight leg of the coil. The wedge shaped pieces shall be constructed of a low magnetic permeability stainless steel or aluminum bronze material (less than 1.02 Mu). Overall dimensions are 2.4m x 3.1m x 9cm. The winding pack cross section dimensions are 9cm x 9cm. The 12-turn coil is to be wound with insulated solid copper conductor and then vacuum pressure impregnated with epoxy. The wedge piece will be attached to the coil using insulating tape and secured in place by a vacuum pressure impregnation process. Cleanliness, dimensional accuracy (?1.5 mm tolerance), and insulation integrity are critical. Key materials and supplies needed to fabricate the coil, such as conductor, insulation material, epoxy resin, and G-11 filler pieces, will be furnished by PPPL. Fabrication of the coils and wedge pieces and final assembly will be the responsibility of the supplier. Other work requirements include testing at room and LN temperatures, inspection of the coils, submission of weekly and monthly progress reports, and submission of a complete quality documentation package with each coil. It is critical that the first three coil assemblies be delivered to PPPL by Feb. 28, 2007 and that the final coil be delivered by Sept. 30, 2007. PPPL invites all interested parties to review information about the TF coil technical and schedule requirements posted at http://oorm-1.pppl.gov/public/procurement/. An NCSX TF Coil procurement teleconference/information meeting will be held on or about January 10, 2006, at PPPL in Plainsboro, New Jersey. The confirmed time and date and instructions for participation in the teleconference/attendance at the meeting will be provided at the above-cited URL. Meeting attendance is optional; however all parties interested in participating in the session should send an email to the address below at least 2 working days prior to the meeting date, indicating whether or not they plan to participate telephonically or attend in person. Parties planning to visit PPPL must supply the name and nationality of all attendees. This announcement is not a Request for Proposals (RFP). In order to be considered for award, offerors must respond to an RFP that will be issued on or about February 1, 2006. Parties interested in receiving notification of RFP availability should send an email to the point of contact listed below, including their company name, contact name, telephone and fax number, and mailing/delivery address. In their proposals, offerors will be expected to address, on a point by point basis, each of the selection criteria found in the RFP, demonstrating their capability and capacity to provide the required deliverables in accordance with the project schedule. The resulting subcontract, if any, is expected to be firm fixed-price type, denominated in US Dollars, and will include a milestone payment schedule negotiated by the parties. The subcontract is expected to be awarded on or about April 15, 2006. PPPL is operated by Princeton University under contract to the United States Department of Energy. General information on PPPL and its research programs is available at www.pppl.gov.
