Description

On January 5, 2006, a Request for Proposals (RFP) will be issued by the National Park Service (NPS) to solicit proposals from the private sector to lease on a long-term basis one or more of three historic buildings in Hot Springs National Park-the Hale, Superior, and Ozark Bathhouses. The three buildings are part of "Bathhouse Row," a National Historic Landmark District that contains the grandest collection of bathhouses of its kind in America. The historic buildings are arrayed in a continuous row along the main street of the City of Hot Springs, Arkansas, opposite the City's "Main Street" style commercial streetscape. Built between 1892 and 1923, the Bathhouse Row buildings range in size from approximately 12,000 square feet to over 28,000 square feet. There are eight Bathhouse Row buildings: the Buckstaff Bathhouse remains in operation as a traditional bathhouse open to the public under an NPS concession contract; the Fordyce Bathhouse is used as the park visitor center and museum; the Maurice and Quapaw Bathhouses are under lease negotiations; and the Lamar Bathhouse has been identified for use by the U.S. Forest Service as a visitor center and office space. The remaining three vacant buildings are offered by this RFP for long-term private sector lease.
