Description
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Office of Operations has a need for technical support and assistance in the following areas: National ITS Architecture Evolution and maintenance and National ITS Architecture Configuration management. In addition, technical support and assistance will be provided to public and/or private organizations deploying ITS technology, those involved with ITS deployment planning (e.g., state DOTs, metropolitan planning organization, and others) and those involved with the development and use of ITS standards. The project will support a wide array of areas associated with National ITS Architecture Evolution and Support. Examples of support and assistance include: conducting an architecture evolution effort to include corrections required to the National ITS Architecture documentation and evaluating/ executing changes due to changes in requirements, deployment experiences, development of ITS standards, and changes in U.S. DOT policy. The project will support integrating new user services into the National ITS Architecture, and will provide ITS deployment support that enhances the transportation planning process and uses the National ITS Architecture in the development of regional and project ITS architectures. In addition, the project will maintain and support the Turbo Architecture software tool, keeping it updated to conform to new versions of the National ITS Architecture and changes or modifications to the FHWA Rule and FTA Policy on Architecture and Standards. The project will assist U.S. DOT outreach, workshop, and training efforts in explaining the use of the National ITS Architecture to FHWA resource centers and division offices, and will assist efforts to explain the Architecture to state and local planners, implementers, integrators, and manufacturers. It will assist U.S. DOT policymakers in defining policy consistent with the National ITS Architecture and supporting the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) and subsequent legislation and ensure that the National ITS Architecture reflects new policies.
