Description

The Air Force Air Warfare Battlelab (AWB) is exploring information on combat certified fuel tanks that can be used on the A/OA-10. This technology would be used by all A/OA-10s for combat and/or training missions. The A/OA-10 does not have an external fuel tank certified for combat operations. Current operations in the AOR require air refueling to support our warfighters on the ground. This puts a strain on an already over-tasked tanker fleet. The tanks will be used by the A/OA-10 in all types of operations at home station as well as deployed operations. Multiple uses of the fuel tanks are envisioned. The tanks will increase combat range and loiter time and reduce the dependence of tanker support to accomplish the A/OA-10 combat missions. The desired functional characteristics are as follows: 1. The tanks can be 300 to 600 gallon capacity. 2. They must be compatible with current fuel tank loading ground equipment. 3. They will be capable of being loaded on the centerline station (station 6) without interfering with weapons or stores loaded on stations 5&7. 4. The tanks will be stressed for up to 475 Knots Indicated Airspeed and +7.3/-3.0 Gs symmetric, and +5.8/-1.0 Gs rolling. 5. They must be able to be safely jettisoned if aircraft safety/survival is compromised. 6. They must be able to operate in low and high altitude A/OA-10 combat operations. 7. The tanks will not interfere with the 30mm Ammunition Loading System of the GAU-8 cannon. Through this request for information (RFI), the Battlelab is requesting information concerning mature or readily emerging technologies that meet the requirements previously stated. This RFI may be followed by a request for proposal to conduct a Battlelab Concept Demonstration. All possible offerors are strongly encouraged to submit information supporting this request.
