- Description
- The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA)Mauna Loa Observatory located in Hilo, HI requires the re-construction of two disassembled steel frame and steel clad metal buildings. The Contractor shall provide all necessary and incidental equipment, materials, and labor to perform all work described in the statement of work. All work shall be performed by skilled workers in compliance with all local and federal regulations and codes. Background: The Keck Observatory, Mauna Kea, surplussed 2 identical metal framed, sheet metal clad buildings and donated them to Mauna Loa Observatory. The buildings were dismantled with the view that they would be reassembled at Mauna Loa. The disassembly consisted of unscrewing the fasteners for the sheet metal wall panels, dismantling the roof sheeting and trusses, and cutting the steel metal frame at a number of points that would allow the building to be reassembled efficiently. The components of the buildings were carefully numbered and packed so as to allow for systematic unpacking and reassembly. The building components are located at the Mauna Loa Observatory site (11,140 feet ASL) and the foundations upon which the buildings are to reconstructed have been poured. Both buildings measure 16 feet long x 13 feet 6 inches wide x 6 feet, 11 ? inches tall. The building structural members are 6 inch x 6 inch rectangular tubes of 3/16 inch thick steel. Both buildings had an elevated rail system extending 16 feet out from one end of the building at the level of the top of the side walls. The rails are supported by two vertical members on each side and cross beams that come as an integral unit. Note: Only Building "A" will be re-assembled with the elevated rail system extending out from one end of the building to form the support for the addition of a deck at a future date. The proposed contract is a 100% Small Business Set Aside and is being executed under the Commercial Acquisition Procedures of FAR Part 13 (NTE $100K) and FAR Part 36. The NAICS code is 238120.
