- Description
- This synopsis is being posted to both the Federal Business Opportunities(FBO) page located at http://www.eps.gov and the Navy Electronic Commerce on Line(NECO) site located at http://www.neco.navy.mil. While it is understood that FBO is the single point of entry for posting of synopsis and solicitations to the internet, NECO is the alternative in case FBO is unavailable. Please feel free to use either site to access information posted by the Navy Sea Systems Command. The purpose of this modification is to answer offeror questions. Question 1: For the seventeen (17) SuperServers do you want Part #6014H-82B? Response 1: Yes, the correct part number is 6014H-82B. A typo was made in the original announcement. Please revise part number 6104H-82B to 6014H-82B. Question 2: How many hard drives are needed per server for the 17 servers, one hard drive or max load of 4? Response 2: One (1) drive per unit is needed. Question 3: I have the same question for the three (3) SuperServers 6034H-X8R, one hard drive or max load eight? Response 3: One (1) drive per unit is needed. Question 4: There is no O/S listed, is this correct, or does NUWC plan on using other means of acquiring and installing an O/S (i.e. ESI), or performing this function themselves? Response 4: No OS required. Question 5: The hard drive requirement is listed, but does not state the number of drives requested. Does this imply that only one drive is needed per Chassis? (Chassis 6014H-82B supports up to 4 drives & Chassis 6034H-X8R supports up to 8 drives). Response 5: One (1) drive per unit required. Question 6: Part# 6014H-82B is a black chassis, while part# 6034H-X8R is beige. Both models are available in either beige or black at no additional cost. Is there a preference, or is the current list correct (Black for the 1U servers and Beige for the 3U servers)? Response 6: All units should be black. Question 7: For the memory on each system there are 8 slots available. Each slot is capable of supporting up to 4gb per slot, but each system only supports up to 16GB of memory. NUWC has requested that the total amount of memory be 8GB, but does not state what size each chip should be. I recommend using 4 x 2GB chips (installed in pairs) so that you still have 4 free slots on each chassis to allow for expansion in the future. That being said, what size chips is NUWC requesting? Response 7: We require 8-1Gb cards for a total of 8Gb. Question 8: Does NUWC require a RAID controller for Data redundancy (as each chassis will support but is not included)? If so, is there a particular RAID controller that NUWC requires, or will the contractor be required to quote the best price technically acceptable? Response 8: Raid controller not required. Question 9: Does the Optical Drive have to be a SCSI one [Optical Drive- DVD RW/CD Combo (Slim) (Must be SCSI)]? I could not find any SCSI slim DVDRW. Typically we use NEC IDE DVDRW. The specifications call for the optical drive to be "DVD-RW/CD combo (slim) (must be SCSI)". This is an unusual request as these are normally an IDE interface. We don't know of any source for SCSI slim line DVD-RW/CD. Is this correct? The specification for the SCSI Slim DVD-RW/CD drive is impossible to meet. These items do not exist. Slim DVD-RW/CD drives exist, however they are all IDE/ATA interfaces. Supermicro system by default supports the IDE/ATA interface, not SCSI for this particular drive bay. Can you please indicate how this portion of the specification should be addressed? Response 10: An IDE/ATA Slim DVD-RW will suffice. Question 10: 1GB DDR2 PC3200 memory comes in two different types. One is single rank and one dual rank. Single rank memories are pretty expensive (around $70) more than the dual rank. Supermicro recommends that for a configuration above 6GB in a system, we have to use single rank memory. (The system will work with dual rank but eventually you will get into problems). Response 10: The single rank memory is required. Question 11: The 2 systems you have specified in this RFQ do not support Dual Core CPUs. They do however offer Dual Core Xeons but not in these models as these use the 64 bit Xeon 2M Cache. I have been informed that the SuperMicro servers and boards requested do not support dual-core processors. They do support 64-bit Xeons, but not the dual core version. Can you let me know what direction to go in here? Would the users like these servers with the 64-bit Xeon processors, or do they require the dual cores? If they require the dual cores, that will require a different server set-up, with a different board. Response 11: Dual Core is not required. The 64 bit Xeon 2M Cache chips will suffice and we will need two CPU's per unit at 3.6 GHz.
