Description
This is a combined/synopsis for commercial services prepared in accordance with the format in Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only request; proposals are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. The associated National American Industry Classification System (NAICS) for this procurement is 112990 - All Other Animal Production and the business size is 500 employees. The Government intends to issue a contract for the Air Force Research Laboratory, Brooks City-Base, TX. The request is for VENDOR STATUS/REQUIREMENT: 1. USDA licensed ANIMAL PHYSICAL and HEALTH STATUS REQUIREMENTS: 1. Live Cynomologus monkeys (Macaca fascicularis) are required for research programs conducted by the U.S. Army Medical Research Detachment (USAMRD). The animals of this specific requisition will be used on an IACUC approved animal use protocol investigating treatments for laser eye injury. Specific physical and health status requirements must be met for animals to be involved in the research program. The monkeys should be: a) Males b) experimentally na?ve, c) 2.4 ? 4.0 kg, d) 18 30 months of age (prefer animals more than 24 months of age), e) herpes B, SIV, SRV, STLV1 antibody negative, PCR/SRV l and 2 negative, f) vaccinated for Hepatitis "A" and measles, g) prophylactic treatment with deworming medications such as Ivermec and Albendazole. h) Tuberculosis negative. It is fairly important that the monkeys be close in age and body size for our experiments so the size of the eye is approximately the same for each animal. Additionally they must have complete clinical histories, results of all previous physical exams (including body weights and fecal parasite egg count) and treatment records. TECHNICAL PRE-SELECTION SCREENING Prior to purchase (and transport to Brooks City-Base, TX) individual animals must have ocular and physical examinations conducted by USAMRD personnel. This requirement is to ensure selected animals meet specific ocular criteria and orbital morphology that is necessary in the animals to be used in this protocol.
