Description
The U.S. Army, RDECOM-ARDEC intends to award a contract to Red Sled, Inc., Fort Lauderdale, FL on a sole source basis under the approved authority of FAR 6.302-1(a)(2)(ii) and FAR 6.302-1(b)(2) to purchase a commercial Spare Barrel Bag, NSN 1005-01-536-9646 for use with the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) and M240B Medium Machine Gun. An initial quantity of 14,140 Barrel Bags will be procured in FY06 and one (1) option for a quantity of 15,710 Barrel Bags. The M249/M240B Spare Barrel Bag provides the capability for expeditiously storing and transporting spare weapon barrels, with other items that are required to support the operational mission requirements of the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon and the M240B Machine Gun. Operational requirements include the ability to transport extremely hot weapon barrels, various ground mount hardware, ancillary items, and ammunition magazines at the same in a single bag. The Barrel Bag is required to be fabricated predominately from heat resistant cloth material suitable for repeated, direct contact with hot machine gun barrels without degradation to the material. The exterior surface of the Barrel Bag shall be in the Army Digital Camouflage pattern. The Barrel Bag shall contain an exterior pocket with a secure closure running the length of the bag, segregated into two compartments approximately seven inches deep. The Barrel Bag shall have two interior compartments running the length of the Barrel Bag capable of holding M249 or M240B barrels and various ground mount hardware securely enough to prevent them from falling out during transport. The Barrel Bag shall have provisions for carrying with one hand, and shall have an attached sling with a padded collar to permit carrying on the shoulder. The Barrel bag shall be capable of being opened flat for access to the interior compartments, and of being folded and secured with external fasteners for carrying. The item is required to be commercially available for rapid procurement and shipment.
