ITE, Inc has developed laser retro-reflector arrays for many spacecraft and GSFC has supported the development of this capability over many years to enable the tracking of spacecraft by NASA?s laser ranging network GSFC intents to acquire a set of reflector arrays for the Phoenix Mars Scout mission due for launch in the summer of 2007. These arrays will enable the Phoenix lander to be located from Mars orbit. The arrays, along with the other lander instruments, are required to be delivered to JPL by Sept 2006. ITE Inc is the only company in the US that has developed flight qualified arrays of this kind and has the experience in mechanical, thermal, and optical assembly to deliver the units on the required schedule for integration on the spacecraft in Sept 2006. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.
