Description

This is an amendment to clarify questions regarding brand name justification. The BEP will not accept equal products for the DELL requirement. This is due to the following memorandum submitted by Deputy CIO Staff of BEP. The Chief Information Officer Directorate has made a determination to standardize on state-of-the-art, DELL PCs throughout the Bureau, both in the Washington, DC and Fort Worth, TX facilities. Standardized Dell network PCs provide for standardized motherboards containing standardized drivers that facilitate network management both with regard to initial imaging as well as subsequent network administration/management via the Bureau's Microsoft System Management Server (SMS). The Bureau's previous policy to purchase multi-brand PCs did not provide for standardized network management. Additionally, a number of these low cost PCs did not facilitate provisions for additional memory. When they did, different mother boards were oftentimes required, as were different network cards. Standardization not only facilitates network administration/management, but also provides for enhanced asset management across the enterprise. Dell PCs, providing for standardized mother boards across multiple generations of PCs, best meet the Bureau's needs.
