Description
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) intends to award on a sole source basis, through Simplified Acquisition Procedures, a purchase order to: Georgetown University, D/B/A Georgetown University Medical School, 37th & O Sts., NW, Washington, D.C. The following services under NAICS Code 923110. CMS has been tasked with developing a health education brochure which will be one of a series which provides information on prenatal care throughout pregnancy for pregnant women receiving Medicaid benefits. The goal of the Healthy Start, Grow Smart (HSGS)initiative is to improve early childhood health for millions of America?s youngest children by improving information available to parents and caregivers about the best practices in early childhood development. The Georgetown Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Group is uniquely qualified to take on this project for several reasons. The MCH Group developed the HSGS Year II series. CMS believes consistency throughout the entire HSGS series is imperative for the success of the HSGS initiative. The HSGS Year II brochures are organized by topic areas designed to reinforce family learning (e.g., section headings across all booklets are identical, each booklet begins with a developmental description of the child to describe common issues and changes within the developmental period, each booklet concludes with a list of resources to help parents find services in their community). CMS believes that maintaining the ?look and feel? across the brochures in the series will promote identification and use of the entire series. The MCH has a great deal of experience consistently producing high-quality print and electronic (Web-based) materials for health professionals and families. The MCH Group developed a wealth of Bright Futures materials. Beginning with the Bright Future guidelines, which provide an organized framework to address current and emerging health needs, practice guides in four topical areas (mental health, nutrition, oral health, and physical activity), as well as numerous other materials. The MCH Group is well-versed in the review process, since all of its materials are reviewed by independent panels of experts in the field. The MCH Group maintains the Maternal and Child Health Library, a central repository of educational materials, which allows staff immediate access to a wide range of accurate, reliable, and timely materials for reference and easy retrieval. The library contains more than 20,000 materials, including guidelines, standards, curricula, books, booklets, and videotapes developed by agencies and organizations. The library also includes the William McConway Hiscock Collection on the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment Program. This is a Presidential Initiative and CMS is committed to having this series developed and ready for distribution.
