- Description
- The third annual Air Force Material Command TATTOO ?Heritage to Horizons? celebrates the 60th anniversary of the United States Air Force and commemorates US Air and Space Power. The TATTOO will be hosted by the Air Force Materiel Command Commander on Friday, June 29, 2007 in conjunction with the annual WPAFB July 4th Fireworks Celebration at the National Museum of the United States Air Force. The TATTOO is an outdoor ceremony that includes music by the Air Force Band of Flight, aircraft flyover?s, military ceremonies and is open to the public. The evening will conclude with a traditional July 4th fireworks show. Our recent 2006 TATTOO was an exciting event and huge success with over 60,000 guests in attendance. The term Military Tattoo dates from the eighteenth century when the British Army was fighting in the Low Countries. Drummers from the garrison were sent out into the towns each evening to inform the soldiers that it was time to return to barracks. The process was known as Doe den tap toe and encouraged the inn keepers to "turn off the taps", stop serving beer and send the soldiers home for the night. The drummers continued to play until the curfew. Over the years, the process became more of a show and often included the playing of the first post and the last post. Bands and displays were included and shows were often conducted by floodlight or searchlight. Tattoos were commonplace in the late 1800?s with most military and garrison towns putting on some kind of show or entertainment during the summer months. We would like to extend the opportunity for your company or organization to be a part of the celebration as a sponsor of the 2007 event. Our professional staff is committed to helping your company achieve your marketing goals and receive the maximum return on your investment. Please don?t hesitate to call me with any comments or questions about the TATTOO/July 4th Celebration and your participation in it. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
