Description
The U.S. Army, ARDEC at Picatinny Arsenal, N.J. is conducting a market survey to identify sources that are capable of molding composite materials for an improved increment protector (IIP) design for 120mm mortar ammunition. Materials need to have the ability to be molded by common processes, preferably injection molding. The improved increment protector design will be similar in design to the existing propelling charge support (see attached drawings). Protectors will meet performance requirements of drop testing (3 ft and 7 ft) and vibration (secured and loose cargo) testing at -60??F, ambient, and +160??F temperature extremes without causing damage to the propelling charges packed within. The protector design must be made from material that will retain its dimensions (no warpage) during fabrication and use of the parts. Foam lining on the interior of the protector will be required to ensure a tight fit for the propelling charges. Offerors may be required to fabricate a prototype mold of the protector design and produce 50 sets of protectors for engineering testing. Upon successful completion of the engineering tests, the offeror will fabricate a production mold of the final protector design and produce 200 sets of protectors for product verification testing. It is requested that the offeror provide a rough cost estimate for the effort and unit production cost for the protector design. Offerors shall also provide a summary of their company's capabilities including: organizations, name/address/point of contact identification, a description of facilities/equipment, manufacturing process, inspection capability, personnel, past experience, proven monthly production capacity, possible partnering/teaming arrangements, and whether the company is a small or large business. The market survey is for planning purposes only and shall not be construed as a request for proposal or as an obligation on the part of the Government. The Government will utilize the information provided for planning purposes only. All information submitted will be provided at no cost to the Government and will be held in a confidential status. The contractor shall provide all information requested in this notification by no later than November 24, 2006 by electronic mail to michael.samra@pica.army.mil . Reference note 26.
