Description

The Naval Air Systems Command at Patuxent River, MD, intends to negotiate and award a firm fixed price contract for 470 new T58-GE-16/16A engine ignition exciters, P/N 10-377700-7, (GE P/N 4155T06P01) to Unison Industries, Jacksonville, FL. The exciter is the spark plug for the motor. The current exciter has created problems for the Fleet for years. It breaks constantly and requires a great deal of maintenance, which the redesigned exciter will eliminate. The new design will eliminate the need for approximately 120 removals per year, which will save the Government time and money. The proposed order will be awarded on a sole source basis to Unison Industries. Unison Industries is the designer and sole manufacturer of the T58 engine ignition exciter and retains exclusive proprietary rights to the technical data. The authority permitting other than full and open competition is Title 10, U.S. Code 2304(c)(1), as implemented by Federal Acquisition Regulation 6.302-1, only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. The estimated delivery of the engine exciters is at a rate of 50 per month, beginning no later than 120 days after contract award. Numbered Note 22 applies.
