- Description
- The U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) is establishing the Institute of Regenerative Medicine dedicated to repairing battlefield injuries through the use of regenerative medicine. Regenerative medicine is a promising field that has already achieved early success in the regeneration of several tissues and organs for repair or replacement. Regenerative medicine encompasses many novel approaches for the treatment of damaged tissues and organs by using therapies that prompt the body to autonomously regenerate, and by using the patients own cells on biodegradable biomaterials for the creation of engineered organs for therapy. These innovations are possible because of several key advances, including the development of systems that ca n reliably nurture cells as they grow and divide, the discovery of growth factors that foster cell proliferation in vitro, and fabrication of biomaterial scaffolds for tissue generation in three-dimensions. The United States Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity (USAMRAA), on behalf of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC), is issuing this Request for Information (RFI) looking for individual or teams of universities and companies that are capable of supporting the mission of the institute. The response to the RFI should demonstrate experience in areas of tissue regeneration, including but not limited to; vascular, nerve, muscle, bone and cartilage, and digits and limbs. Responden ts should also demonstrate experience in navigating the regulatory pathway through clinical trials. In addition, it is envisioned that a team will be operating in a geographically dispersed environment. Therefore, responses should demonstrate the ability to manage a dispersed and diverse team of medical and scientific professionals in an outcome driven environment working toward successful initiation and possible completion of clinical trials. It is envisioned that this institute will be an organization consisting of multiple universities and/or companies working in conjunction with the US Army Institute of Surgical Research under the framework of a five-year cooperative agreement. USAMRMC has $5 million/year budgeted for this project and is seeking collaboration from other government agencies to push the total contract award to a minimum of $10 million/year. The Government is seeking responses from interested parties as a result of this announcement. The Government is soliciting interested parties only at this time. No awards will be made from this announcement. However, all information received may be used for evaluation of future awards. Interested universities and companies shall provide a white paper (no more than 25 pages in length) describing their capabilities to meet the above requirement. Responses to this Request for Interest should be directed t o Christopher Gloyd, Contract Specialist, at the U.S. Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity (USAMRAA), at christopher.gloyd@det.amedd.army.mil. Responses are due by 3:00PM eastern standard time, 2 March, 2007. No telephone calls please.
