Description
1. The Aeronautical Systems Center (ASC) is soliciting information to identify possible sources to provide components for lightweight power generation and management. This Request for Information (RFI) is issued for informational purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation or commit the government to award a contract now or in the future. Submitting information for this RFI is voluntary, and participants will not be compensated. 2. Respondents to this RFI should describe their ability to meet and/or exceed the following objectives: BATTERY: a. Battery should provide electrical power simultaneously to the PRC-117 radio, laser target designator (SOFLAM), Multi-Band Inter-Team Radio (MBITR), and CF-18 (or CF-19) Toughbook (laptop) computer. b. Batteries offered should power all devices listed in 2a (400 W of power) c. Batteries should weigh approx 1.9 kilograms or less; d. Total energy capacity of the battery must be approx 250 Watt hours or greater. e. Batteries should have between 8 to 10 Amp hours of capacity in the form of a rechargeable battery. f. Batteries must have certification testing completed to allow for shipment by commercial air transportation. g. Batteries should be capable of providing power in an operating environment with external temperatures from -20C to 55C. An internal heater would be desirable. POWER MANAGER h. Power manager should weigh approx 400 grams or less. i. Power manager should provide for a state-of-charge indication for the rechargeable batteries using SM-BUS protocol. j. Power manager should be able to route power to both 30V devices, as well as have an adjustable range for devices ranging from 10 ? 20 V. k. Power manager should provide information via a USB protocol. Software for PC should be included with the power manager. l. Power manager should provide peak power tracking capability for solar panels. m. Power manager should have a volume of less than 25 cubic inches. n. Power manager should be interoperable with current BRITES Spiral I cables and batteries. o. Power manager should archive data to fully document all activity for a minimum of 72 hours. MISCELLANEOUS p. Appropriate cabling for connections to/between components and the systems listed in 2a must be provided. q. The respondent must be capable of demonstrating the offered product within 30 days in a tactical, field-ready configuration suitable for use in combat. r. The product offered should be representative of the proposed production item. s. The product must be non developmental to field. t. The offeror must demonstrate ability to rapidly manufacturer/deliver systems in large quantities. 3. It is desirable, but not required that responses be submitted on CD-ROM in an electronic format that is compatible with Microsoft Windows/Office with no macros. Two (2) copies of the CD submittals should be submitted as set forth in paragraph 4. If the CD contains proprietary/competition sensitive material, the CD and cover label should be marked ?Proprietary/Competition Sensitive Information?. Two paper copies should be submitted as set forth in paragraph 4. Paper copies must be clearly labeled ?Proprietary/Competition Sensitive Information? on the cover sheets and, in close proximity to this type of information, on each applicable page. Proprietary/Competition sensitive information will be protected from disclosure. E-mail copies of the paper submittal will be accepted. 4. Responses must be received no later than 27 March 2007.
