Description
Title: In-Vivo Assessment of Microbicide efficacy and Immunologic Impact of Interventions on Pig-Tail Macaques The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for HIV, Hepatitis, STD, and Tuberculosis Prevention intends to negotiate and issue a sole source award under Simplified Acquisition procedures to Emory/Yerkes National Primate Research Center, 954 Gatewood Road, Atlanta, GA 30322 for 9 female Pig-tail Macaques required for studies in preventing HIV transmission. The purpose of this study will be to develop an assay or combination of methods to examine/evaluate potential mucosal factors that inhibit HIV-infection. This study is a follow-up to previous year studies and requires pig-tail macaques to ensure comparable data sets across studies. CDC will enroll the Female Pig-tail Macaques in this pre-clinical, topical microbicide intervention study to evaluate soluble DC-SIGN for the prevention of mucosal SHIV transmission in a repeat challenge macaque model of HIV-infection, evaluate the immunologic kinetics at peripheral and mucosal sites, evaluate combination topical microbicide/oral ARV intervention to block SHIV infection in a repeat-exposure macaque model of HIV-1 infection, and conduct a retrospective evaluation of immunologic kinetics in oral TDF-treated macaques that were part of a rectal transmission study. The vendor shall test and transport to CDC 9 female pig-tail macaques in accordance with federal regulations for research animal use and care. The period of performance is 12 months from date of award. This is not a request for competitive proposals and no solicitation is available. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed action based on response to this notice is solely with the discretion of the Government.
