- Description
- TECHNOLOGY/BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY Ergonomic Hand Truck or Cart for Material Handling Opportunity: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is offering the opportunity to license and commercialize patented technology for a Hand Truck (Cart, or other material handling device) which provides the ability to move heavy objects in an ergonomically correct posture. Background: In the past, various types of hand-held material-moving devices have been developed for different applications. These prior material-moving carrying devices have not been constructed ergonomically so as to reduce the risk of potential injury to the user. The present invention provides a solution to the potential injury problems associated with material handling, by an ergonomically constructed material-handling device for moving heavy and/or large objects. Description: This invention relates to the design of a Hand Truck or Cart which is designed to allow workers to move objects while maintaining an ergonomic posture of the back, shoulders, wrists and knees. The design accomplishes this by using an adjustable handle height and an ergonomically correct handle. The resulting device helps workers maintain a neutral posture while moving objects. This should reduce ergonomic-related injuries associated with material handling (which is the number one expense for workman?s compensation in industry). Potential Applications: The main application for this patented technology is in the design of Hand Trucks, Carts, and other associated types of material handling devices. Development Status: LLNL has built and tested Hand Trucks which embody the patented design. IP Status: Patent No. 6,779,803, ?Ergonomic Material Handling Device? Issued 8/24/0 Please visit the IPAC website at: http://www.llnl.gov/IPandC/workwithus/partneringprocess.php for more information on working with LLNL and the industrial partnering and technology transfer process. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT. Companies interested in commercializing LLNL's Material Handling Device should provide a written statement of interest, which includes the following: 1. Company Name and address. 2. The name, address, and telephone number of a point of contact. 3. A description of corporate expertise and facilities relevant to commercializing this technology. Written responses should be directed to: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization P.O. Box 808, L-795 Livermore, CA 94551-0808 Attention: FBO 131-06 Please provide your written statement within thirty (30) days from the date this announcement is published to ensure consideration of your interest in LLNL's Material Handling Device.
