Description
CONTACT TIM CARSON AT timothy.h.carson@nasa.gov ONLY FOR TECHNICAL ISSUES REGARDING THIS NOTICE, AS WELL AS FOR QUOTES. CONTACT INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND IN THE BODY OF THIS NOTICE************** NASA/MSFC has a requirement for: 1. Training 1 Job 2. Ultrasonic Camera 1 EA 3. 1 Mhz 1 Job 4. 2.25 Mhz 1 Job 5. Aluminum Plate with holes 1 EA NASA/MSFC intends to purchase the items from Impeerium, Inc. for the following reasons: 1. NASA has a requirement to inspect complex composite structures on the Ares I launch vehicle both during and after assembly and testing. Inspection locations include areas with severe access limitations where a lightweight, handheld tool is necessary to allow the inspection to be performed. Imperium Inc. is the sole known provider of a commercially available, handheld ultrasonic camera designed for nondestructive evaluation applications. 2. Conventional ultrasonic C-scans rely on bulky, complex robotic tooling to move the transducer over the part methodically to provide complete inspection coverage. Such tooling will be impossible to set up in some locations of the Ares I. Imperium?s ultrasonic camera provides the only practical method of performing an ultrasonic inspection in some locations of the vehicle. 3. The US patents were searched on-line along with all pertinent vendors with similar ultrasonic marketing that could supply an ultrasonic camera capable of single sided inspection of aerospace structures. The only vendor that we could find who markets such a product in this category is Imperium Incorporated. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on June 25, 2007. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. An Ombudsman has been appointed. See NASA Specific Note "B". Any referenced notes may be viewed at the following URLs linked below.
