Description

These forgings are needed to finish testing on prototype guns for a new weapons system that has a significant reduction in weight. A good portion of the the weight reduction is due to a new high strength, high toughness steel currently not available in the production of large caliber guns. This contract action is the acquisition of forgings which have been determined to be available from only one responsible source. In order to satisfy cannon safety testing requirements we must utilize the same identical forging materials as were used in th e original cannon prototypes, therefore we must obtain the forgings from the same contractor who provided the orginal forgings. It is not feasible to use a different source at this time, however, once testing is completed future requirements are expected t o be competed. The proposed contract action is for supplies for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 6.302-1. Interested persons may identify their interest. However, as this acquisition is associated with an earlier contract they will not receive the proposal for the reasons mentioned above. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. A determination by the Government not to compete with this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
