Description
The USDA, Agricultural Research Service in Albany, California has a requirement for a liquid scintillation counter and software for use with radioactive materials. Must be a benchtop system that can be placed on standard laboratory bench that includes the following features: elevate samples into the counting chamber located above the sample changer for mechanical simplicity and minimizing potential contamination resulting from sample spills; use ridged, molded, and mechanically stable sample racks that accomplish sample vial transfer to the counting chamber; have at least a 32,768 channel multi-channel analyzer for the highest possible resolution (actual, not interpolated, resolution of 0.06KeV); accurate quench correction for tritium by auto-DPM (without quench curves); alphanumeric chemically resistant key pad with function key; multitasking capabilities; automatic power-up diagnostics; automatic calibration and verification; diagnostic program; positive sample identification; 20-user programs; an isotope library for H-3, C-14, P-32, S-35 and I-125; auto-isoset; fixed background subtraction; first-vials blank subtraction; half-life correction to any date; final result normalization; H-number plus; external quench monitor; single and dual label DPM; precise external quench monitor for superior single and multi-label studies; an automatic color detection and correction to allow intermixing of color and chemical quenched samples within a sample set; advanced photomultiplier design low background; self-contained with built-in 16-bit CPU coupled with digital signal processor for fast data processing with real-time spectrum display and plot, real-time histogram display and plot; system not to require PC to operate the instrument and allow DPM corrected results without a PC; user friendly menu prompts; able to select the energy scale in channels (0-1000) based on log energy or in linear KeV (0-2000); allow for spectra to be acquired in either log channels or linear KeV; able to automatically determine and set the unquenched window for additional isotopes added to the isotope library; perform single or replicate background subtraction; have interlocking lead shielding to reduce background; have secure parameter storage on battery-backed RAM; have internal battery for parameter and data backup, provide automatic recovery from power failure, resume counting and data storage (without any data loss); be capable of automatic calibration with self-correction using sealed calibration standard and provide hard copy verification with date and time; perform batch cycle repeats by reversing sample set for the next cycle for timely batch analysis and guarantee sequential printouts and RS-232 outputs; include fully automatic interrupt mode with data storage, recall, sequestered report generation and restart; allow ?interrupt sample rack? to be placed anywhere in sample changer, and ability to automatically find the rack, count samples under specified conditions, store data, and return to the interrupted sample without operator intervention; use H-Number external quench monitor, use inflection point on spectrum from an external standard to determine chemical and color quench in order to optimize DPM accuracy by ignoring spectral artifacts; external standard that monitors and calculates quench levels to a 1% accuracy regardless of quench level, sample volume, and vial type; provide accurate DPM results without selecting vial or cocktail type; include automated quench curve set-up program with preset optimum parameters; have as part of the DPM quench curve set-up function a pipetting monitor to flag any standard exceeding +/- 1% of the measured count rate for accuracy; provide as part of single, dual and triple label DPM set-up, a quench correlation table to compare the calculated vs measured efficiencies, using both H# Plus, and IC# with any standard exceeding 10% of the difference between the two efficiency values being flagged; automatically adjust count window to correct spectrum spill due to quench providing the most accurate DPM correction possible in multi-label studies; print the counting efficiency for each isotope in single- and multi-label DPM modes; correct for changing background resulting from variable levels of sample by incorporating background quench curves as part of DPM correction; calculate corrected DPM results based on stored quench curve for single label samples and multiple quench curves for multi-label samples; stored quench curves, both single and dual label, for tritium and carbon-14; provide auto-DPM that performs single-label DPM calculations on pure beta- or alpha-emitting isotopes without the need for a quench curve; provide color detection and correction for accurate SL DPM results by detecting and quantitating amount of color in sample and apply corrections before displaying or printing DPM result; provide two-phase monitor; provide luminescence detection and correction. Interested firms are encouraged to submit proposals containing descriptive literature of their technical capabilities to Clarice Dixson, USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Western Regional Research Center, 800 Buchanan Street, Albany, CA 94710. Note: Award is subject to the availability of funds.
