Description
The USDA, Agricultural Research Service in Albany, California has a requirement for a nanosizer for the measurement of size, molecular weight and zeta potential of dispersed particles and molecules in solution. This equipment must be able to characterize physical properties and stability of nano and micro emulsions used to prepare edible films to control release of active compounds with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties as well as edible and non-edible composite films with nanoparticles and nanofibers in on-going research. This particle size analyzer system must allow measure of particle size distributions at the lowest range possible (0.6 nm) and versatile enough to measure zeta potential and molecular weights. The system shall have temperature control using Peltier elements over the range 2 degree C to 90 degree C and the option to automate the measurement of size and zeta potential as a function of pH, conductivity or additive concentration. The system must have option to measure molecular weight over the range 1x10E3 to 2x10E7 Daltons using the Debye plot method. The system shall include He-Ne laser. The nanosizer system shall include a computer and printer for system control and printing of results of the physical analysis of solutions; and supply of disposable sample cells. The software to control this equipment must be compatible with Windows 2000 and XP operating systems. It must be possible to export measured data or results to word processing packages or spreadsheets using a template, or cut and paste. Must allow access to all measured data including correlation functions, fitted data points, residuals and all experimental parameters must be available and stored for subsequent examination. System must have the ability to measure samples with manually defined parameters, or by defining a ?Standard Operating Procedure?. A solicitation is not available for this notice. Interested firms are encouraged to contact Clarice Dixson at cdixson@pw.usda.gov or 510-559-6027 and submit proposals with descriptive literature of equipment to US Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Western Regional Research Center, 800 Buchanan Street, Albany, California 94710-1105.
