Description: Sandia National Laboratories is starting a Joint Industry Program to evaluate and encourage development of new high-temperature battery technologies needed to provide power solutions for harsh environmental electronic measurement and control systems. This program will initially focus on a rechargeable sodium-sulfur battery technology from Electrochemical Systems. This battery is expected to operate from 125C to 250C. Testing will involve leakage current testing for usable storage life at elevated temperatures, some vibration testing and charge-discharge cycle life in accordance with AIR5711 of the SAE-AE7.
