- Description
- This amendment serves to answer industry questions regarding this RFI, update the NAICS code for R&D, and extend the closing date from 29 Oct 07 to 30 Nov 07. There is not a lot of technical detail but that is intentional. We do not want to lead any of the responses down a preconceived path, as we are looking for innovative industry ideas and responses on potential technological solutions. Industry Questions and Technical Representatives' Answers: Question 1. Helicopter APS Potential Threat Types and Their Vulnerabilities Answer 1. The primary threats we will consider are MANPADS (current generation and emerging) and RPGs, but we desire performance against other threats such as ATGMs and unguided rockets. We are currently investigating the vulnerabilities of specific thre ats, but the lethal mechanism should cause the threat and all residual parts to miss the aircraft. Question 2. Detailed Engagement Scenario Answer 2. Scenarios of interest include all situations in which helicopters or large slow fixed wing aircraft would be operating at a speed and altitude that would make them vulnerable to the threats above. Question 3. Defeat Ranges and Keep Out Zones Answer 3. This depends on the lethal mechanism and its effectiveness. Question 4. Aircraft Constraints (Size, Weight, Power, Placement of APS) Answer 4. The constraints are undefined at this point, but size and mass should be minimized. Question 5. Sensor Clutter Environments Answer 5. Sensor clutter environments should include all terrain and weather conditions encountered in operating environments. Question 6. Is same solution required for both Fixed and Rotary? Answer 6. All solutions and technologies will be assessed.
