- Description
- Princeton University Plasma Physics Laboratory, engaged in magnetic fusion energy research for the US Department of Energy, is seeking a materials engineering consultant to provide on-call technical expert input and guidance primarily in the following areas: Non-magnetic metals and composites materials to include mechanical and electrical properties and testing methods at cryogenic, elevated and room temperatures; metallurgy of materials used in fusion applications; welding of stainless steel alloys; application of fracture mechanics; development and/or selection of resin systems (epoxy, polyimide, cyanate ester) which must perform both structural and electrical insulation functions in magnetic systems which are often exposed to high radiation doses. Depending on application, the operating temperature can range from 4 degrees K (for cryogenic applications and superconducting magnets) to 150 degrees C (for high temperature resistive magnets). It is expected that the consultant selected will be broadly recognized as an expert in some of the subject areas above and have experience in the engineering of magnetic systems for fusion applications, or equivalent. The proposed Subcontract for consultant?s services is anticipated to be for about two years, with possible Option to extend. Based on recent experience about 160 hours of consultant services will be required annually with about 90% of that time related to responding to telephonic/e-mail queries. Request those qualified individuals interested in this requirement send by 20 December 2007 via e-mail, with attached resume, to lsutton@pppl.gov a statement of interest in receiving Request for Proposals 08-016F. This is not a Request for Proposals.
