- The Army Sustainment Command is conducting a market survey of industry to identify potential sources that are interested in manufacturing the BDU-33 Practice Bomb, Part No. 7729467-10, estimated quantity 120,000. The BDU-33D/B is the basic practice bomb utilized by the Air Force to train pilots and is critical to the Air Force training program. The BDU-33D/B has a tear-drop shaped body with a fin attached and weighs approximately 25 pounds. The body is approximately 23 inches in length with the larg est diameter of body approximately four inches, centrally bored and iron cast IAW ASTM A48/A48M. The fin is approximately 15 inches in length with an outside diameter of six inches, cold rolled sheet steel. Manufacture of the BDU-33 requires skilled welde rs and machinists and a facility that provides high quality phosphate coating and spray wash painting. Critical equipment required to produce this item is the tooling to produce components, robust machining line for castings, machine to crimp bomb fin asse mbly to machined casting, zinc phosphate system and paint system. Contractor and/or subcontractors shall provide all necessary material capital equipment and personnel to manufacture the BDU-33D/B Practice Bomb. Manufacture of this item requires specialize d welding equipment, phosphate coating equipment with waste treatment, specialized tooling and skilled labor. Conformance to quality reqirements is essential. Pre-phosphate treatment, welding, forming and machining may present challenges. Parties interested in manufacturing the BDU-33D/B Practice Bomb shall indicate their interest by providing a brief summary of their company capabilities including a description of facilities, personnel and past manufacturing experience as it relates to the require d criteria. Additional information, including the Technical Data Top Drawing can be requested from the POC identified herein. Interested companies who have the necessary capabilites should respond by providing the following: a minimum economical start-up quantity, estimated minimum and maximum monthly production quantities. Quantities identified herein are estimates only and may change significantly if a soicitation materializes. This information shall be submitted to HQ, Army Sustainment Command, A MSAS-ACA-M, Ms. Rita Combs, email: rita.coms@us.army.mil no later than January 18, 2008. All information collected from this market survey shall be used for planning purposes only. Do not mistake this sources sought as a request for proposal or as an obl igation on the part of the Government. The Government does not intend to award a contract based on this market survey or otherwise pay for information solicited. Please identify any proprietary information submitted.
