- Description
- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has developed and demonstrated a juvenile salmon acoustic telemetry system (JSATS) consisting of acoustic micro-transmitters (tags) and autonomous and cabled acoustic receivers that meet its needs for evaluati ng the survival of juvenile salmonids migrating through the Columbia River Federal Hydropower System. Cabled receivers have been deployed at large hydro-electric dams for determining specific route of passage for migrating juvenile salmon. These receive rs consist of four hydrophones and four cables with each hydrophone and cable pair carrying the signals generated by sound incident on each hydrophone to a computer. This acoustic system has a center frequency at 416.7 KHz. The hydrophones consist of a p iezoelectric element, shielded amplifier, and non-conductive case; the assembly able to withstand and function at static pressure up to 600K Pa absolute. Specifications for hydrophone directivity and receive sensitivity at 416.7 KHz TBD. Present estimate of minimum acceptable (on axis) receive sensitivity at the indicated frequency is -200 dBV//?Pa. To meet the requirements of 2008 juvenile salmon research study plans beginning in Mid-April, the USACE will be soliciting for hydrophone assemblies specific to this frequency and that meet its specification requirements. This solicitation (RFQ) outlining these specifications will be posted on/or about 18 January, 2008.
