- Description
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Office of Acquisitions, Acquisitions Management and Operations Branch (AMOB) has a requirement to house, feed, and care for an estimated 300 nonhuman primates of the following species: Macaca mulatta; Macaca fasicularis, Macaca nemestrina; and any other combination of Old World and New World species. The number of non-human primates required to be housed and maintained by the contractor may also be increased by up to 50 primates per year - up to a maximum of 500 animals total - over the course of the contract period of performance. Offerors will also be required to conduct up to 20 procedures per month for experimental groups consisting of 4 to 12 nonhuman primates for immunogenicity and viral challenge studies of various viral strains including Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV); Simian- Human Immonodefiency (SHIV) strains; Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV); Vaccinia wild type and recombinant viruses; attenuated and wild type adenoviruses, including recombinant adenoviruses; and attenuated and wild type Influenza viruses. Procedures performed include, but are not limited to, innoculation; animal observation and monitoring; evaluation of therapies; specimen collection and performance of clinical and pathological procedures as prescribed. Offerors must be able to provide secure and adequate dedicated storage and isolation facilities including environmentally-controlled procedure and containment rooms; necessary equipment; and qualified, experienced personnel for animal care, maintenance, and procedures conducted at the ABSL-2 and/or ABSL-3 level of containment. In order to facilitate the exchange of specimen samples to and from the project office and the contractor's facility, the offeror's housing facility must be within 50 miles of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) facilities located at 9000 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, Maryland 20892. The NIAID NIH intends to award a one-year cost type contract with four (4) one-year options beginning on or about March 1, 2008.
