- Description
- The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Laboratory of Pathology (LP), plans to procure on a sole source basis; immunohistochemical and in situ-hybridization staining reagents and supplies from Ventana Medical Systems, Inc.; 3865 North Business Center Drive; Tucson, AZ 85705. The supplies and services herein are commercial as defined in FAR Part 12, and this acquisition is being made in accordance with the test program for using simplified procedures for certain commercial items as authorized in FAR Part 13.5. The North American Industry Classification System code is 325413 and the business size standard is 500 employees. The Laboratory of Pathology has a need to provide immunohistochemical and in situ hybridization reagents requested by both the diagnostic services and research laboratories within the LP. These stains/reagents have become an essential part of cancer diagnosis and have an equally important role in the diagnosis of many infectious diseases. The reagents shall be used for diagnostic immunohistochemistry laboratory clinical use, as well as for supporting clinical and basic research in the LP and other NIH laboratories. These reagents shall be used on several automated immunostaining/in situ-hybridization systems (i.e. Ventana ES, NexES, Benchmark and Discovery systems) that the laboratory has purchased from Ventana Medical Systems under previous contracts. Ventana Medical Systems, Inc. is the only source known to NCI that can provide the reagents and supplies that are required to operate the Ventana automated immunostainers/in situ-hybridization Ventana ES, NexES, Benchmark and Discovery systems. The reagents are proprietary to Ventana Medical. The current clinical standard operating procedures (SOPs) have been developed over many years using Ventana equipment and reagents. Changing variables/systems at this time will be detrimental to both patient care and to the current research being performed in the laboratory. Without the reagents, the existing automated systems cannot be used. Period of Performance shall be for a base year of twelve (12) months from date of award with four (4) one (1) year option periods. In addition, this is a firm fixed price, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) type contract. Only one (1) award will be made as a result of this notice. This is not a request for competitive quotations. However, if any interested party believes it can provide the above supplies, it may submit a statement of capabilities. All information furnished shall be in writing and must contain sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if it can meet the above specifications described herein. Capability statements must be received in the Contracting Office by 11:00 AM ET on May 12, 2008.
