- Description
- NAICS Code: 334516 BACKGROUND:NAICS Code: 334516 Currently Radiation and Indoor Environments (R&IE) National Laboratory maintains radiological instruments and equipment to meet Homeland Security defense capability for radiological emergency response requirements and as EPA first responders of the Radiation Emergency Response Team (RERT) requires routine field radiation assessments. Field operation personnel might be required to take reading and measurement in the location and in order to obtain these reading specialized field handheld instruments will be utilized. The handheld instruments are considered mobile, lightweight, and versatile when it comes to field support equipment. The Office of Radiation and Indoor Air, Radiation and Indoor Environments National Laboratory (ORIA/R&IE) in conjunction and collaboration with the Office of Radiation and Indoor Air, Washington D.C., and Office of Radiation and Indoor Air, National Air and Radiation Environmental Laboratory (ORIA/NAREL) is continuing its effort to provide defensible radiological analytical values to the Public and other Governmental Agencies. R&IE supports Superfund projects in cleanup, removal, remediation, and radiological emergencies. EPA under the National Response Framework (NRF) and other federally-mandated regulations would be tasked as the primary and coordinating agency for specific radiological emergency responses. ORIA/R&IE is requesting to purchase specialized detection equipment to be used during RERT deployment. The detection equipment will be used to determine reading specific to radiation detection. The type of instrument requested is the state of the art Canberra Inspector 1000 that provides high resolution (<3%) for gamma radiation identification and approximate quantification with additional detection for neutrons. CANBERRA INSPECTOR 1000 DIGITAL HANDHELD MULTICHANNEL ANALYZER MCA system that incorporates the LaBr detectors and neutron probes (IPRON-N) together in on complete system. R&IE currently maintains approximately 250 various instruments and this requested purchase is to maintain consistency for training, calibration, maintenance, and Standard Operating Procedures. The high resolution hand held Multi-Channel Analyzer (MCA) is for the EPA first responders of the Radiation Emergency Response Team (RERT) and routine field radiation assessments. Canberra Multi Channel Analyzer is the only MCA with source-less compensation required for energy stabilization. Canberra Multi Channel Analyzer is the only MCA compatible with GENI 2000 data software used for all RERT gamma analysis. A determination not to compete the proposed Purchase Order based upon the responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. All questions should be directed to Rasheda Sherron via email at sherron.rasheda@epa.gov.
