Description
On or about 31 July 2008, this office will issue Request for Proposals for design and construction of the CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER at FORT CARSON, COLORADO. The solicitation will close on or about 1 September 2008. The NAICS code for this project is 236220. This solicitation is RESTRICTED TO SMALL BUSINESS PARTICIPATION. Site visits may be requested. Provisions in the solicitation documents will provide points of contact, access requirements and other pertinent information. See “Obtaining Solicitation Documents” below. Project Description: This is a Design-Build Project. The work consists of design and construction of a 195-child capacity standard design Child Development Center (CDC) for children ages 6 to 10 at Fort Carson, Colorado. Project includes a computer laboratory; homework center; activity rooms; arts and crafts and game areas; A kitchen (food preparation only); demonstration/teaching kitchen; two multipurpose rooms for fitness and sports; restrooms, laundry room, and storage areas. The primary facility will have installed fire protection and alarm systems, as well as conduit for video monitoring system/closed circuit televisions. Supporting facilities include all required support utilities; security lighting; information systems; paving, walks, curbs and gutters; storm drainage and retention pond; a fenced outdoor play area which includes a paved play area, installed play equipment, and a multipurpose field; safety surfacing; and landscaping. Special foundations are required due to expansive soils at Fort Carson. Access for individuals with disabilities will be provided for both the building and outdoor activity areas. Heating (gas-fired) and air-conditioning will be provided by self-contained systems. Antiterrorism/force protection will be provided through building setbacks and site design, interior sway bracing, and blast-resistant windows and exterior door glass. Hazardous material removal, demolition of an existing facility and removal of abandoned on-site utilities and former temporary wood facility concrete foundations is required. The estimated design and construction cost of this project is between $7,500,000 and $10,000,000.
