- Description
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to issue a sole source purchase order to Applied Biosystems, 850 Lincoln Centre Drive, Foster City, CA 94404-1128, for customized TLDA cards. Acute respiratory infections are among the most common causes of human disease, and newly emerging respiratory pathogens, like SARS coronavirus and avian influenza, pose the added risk of pandemic outbreaks. A wide spectrum of microorganisms (primarily viruses and bacteria) can cause respiratory illness and clinical presentation is often of little diagnostic value. Consequently, there is a great need for improved diagnostic assays; however, conventional methods such as culture, antigen detection or serology may lack speed, sensitivity or availability for concurrent detection of multiple microbes. TaqMan Low Density Array (TLDA) cards provide a novel application of the TaqMan real-time PCR assay in a non-multiplexed format capable of rapid, simultaneous testing of multiple clinical specimens for up to 21 respiratory pathogens plus controls. Applied Biosystems will provide a format 24 TLDA, with assays designed, synthesized and formulated by the customer. Applied Biosystems services will provide spotting up to 23 CDC-provided assays on blank standard 384-well TaqMan Array cards (TLDA) at card locations specified by CDC, with one 18S or GAPDH calibration assay specified by CDC per port; one IPC furnished to CDC under a Material Transfer Agreement effective as of October 1, 2007; and delivering spotted cards to CDC under mutually agreed schedule. CDC believes that this requirement is met by only one provider. This procurement will be processed under the authority of FAR 6.302-1 and 6.302-2. Only one responsible source and no other sources will satisfy agency requirements. No solicitation is being issued. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to this requirement. This procurement is not set-aside for small business. Please notify the POC by email if you wish to provide a quote.
