- Description
- Description: U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development, & Engineering Center is seeking information from industry to determine potential sources of ballistic fragmentation, maxilo/mandible (lower face) protective faceshields for military field use that can be integrated with ballistic goggles and spectacles, military helmets, communication headsets, visual augmentation systems, drinking systems, and interface cheek weld to weapon stock (M-4), and allow for sighting all weapon types. For quick egress, a means of flipping up, down, or away, for quick detachment while using Night Vision Goggles is required. The faceshield should allow some means of air flow to eliminate heat and moisture build-up and any eyewear fogging. Maximum field of view is needed for downward, peripheral, firing in prone, standing, and kneeling positions, and sighting weapons. This sources sought announcement is seeking product literature and ballistic test data for commercially available, modular, removable mandible faceshields: reports with V50 and/or V0 ballistic test results, for 22 cal (17 g), T37 shaped projectile or 9 mm, or other rounds. Provide Test methodology used. mandible faceshield shall be as lightweight as possible, closest to 1 lb, achieving 17 g protection afforded today by eyewear. Objectively, greater than 17 gr ballistics fragmentation protection is desired, with slight trade room for additional weight increase, potentially 2 lb. Information sought includes product description, business size, pricing, and test data. Mandible faceshields may be integrated with Advanced Combat Helmets, MICH helmets, USMC or Combat Vehicle Crewman Helmets and ear cups, Peltor or Sordin communication systems or commercial low-profile binaural ear devices, currently fielded optical systems (NVGs, thermals, scopes, or M1 tank sights), and use of handheld radios ie. such as AN/PRC-119 SINCGARS radio. The faceshields shall objectively allow for interface of chemical biological facial protection or accommodate the M40 protective mask. Other properties desired: Non-melting, flame retardant, and non-shattering. This sources sought is subject to Berry Amendment, 10 USC 2533a. Vendors who believe they have a product(s) capable of meeting this requirement are requested to provide literature, brochures, price lists, warranty coverage, business size and any other relevant information. Identify Made in USA vs any components of the faceshield and its attachment mechanisms made and assembled in the USA, or whether the commercial product is of foreign vendor submission. Responses shall be submitted no later than 1:00 on (E.S.T) 30 Sep 2008 to: US Army Natick Soldier RD&E Center, Warfighter Protection and Aerial Delivery Directorate Personal Protective Equipment Team, ATTN: Deb McLean (D218), RDECOM, 4 Kansas St., Natick, MA 01760. Materials or products submitted will not be returned. This is not a request for quotation or proposal. No solicitation documentation exists. This is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government to procure these items, nor does the Natick Soldier RDE Center intend to award on the basis of this sources sought/market research or otherwise pay for the information solicited.
