- 2009 NUCLEAR ENERGY UNIVERSITY PROGRAMS (NEUP) R&D ANNOUNCEMENT Deadline for Pre-Application Submission is January 19, 2009 The Department of Energy, Office of Nuclear Energy, is pleased to announce its 2009 University Programs (NEUP) research and development (R&D) solicitation. The solicitation is open to all U.S. colleges and universities. R&D awards under this solicitation are expected to total between $13M -$50M, based on available funding. Only pre-applications for proposed projects are being requested at this time. The full solicitation is expected to be issued in the February 2009 timeframe. NEUP will fund R&D that facilitates achievement of NE programmatic objectives in the following program areas: 1) Advanced Fuel Cycle Initiative (AFCI); 2) Generation IV Nuclear Energy Systems Initiative (Next Generation Nuclear Plant); 3) Nuclear Hydrogen Initiative (NHI); 4) Light Water Reactor Sustainability (LWRS) program; and 5) Plutonium 238 (Pu238) Development program. I nvestigator-initiated, mission-specific applied R&D and basic nuclear science and engineering research and development pre-applications are also being requested through th is solicitation. This announcement is available at www.caesenergy.org. Also available at this site is a copy of the full solicitation (pdf.), a log-in to the NEUP Proposal website, and a "Log-in Request" tool where interested parties may request log-in credentials. Pre-applications are due by 12:00AM midnight Mountain Standard Time on January 19, 2009.
