Description
Work consists of a clearing and spillway system maintenance project at Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW) Southern Disposal Areas 284 & 300 in Brunswick County, NC. Each of these sites is used for disposal of maintenance dredging material from the AIWW. Improvements are needed at each site to prepare them for disposal of dredged material during the next AIWW dredging cycle. The two spillways at the AIWW Disposal Area 284 are in need of replacement as well as the spillway system at Disposal Area 300. The existing spillways and pipe will be removed and disposed of. The new spillway will be the D-shaped corrugated steel design with two being eight feet and the third 16 feet tall. There will be a total of 210 linear feet of new 36 diameter Corrugated Metal Piping installed at Disposal Area 284 and 134 linear feet installed at Disposal Area 300. The contractor will also be responsible for grading around the spillways to create positive drainage towards the spillway riser. Dike repair of the affected footprint for removal and installation of the spillway systems will be conducted once the new spillway systems are approved by the COR. Fill material for the dike repairs will come from approved material within the diked areas. Once the dike repairs are approved, the affected area will be seeded. The approximate area to be seeded is 0.1 acre for Disposal Area 284 and 0.1 acre for Disposal Area 300. The work shall also include clearing of the disposal areas extending to the outer toe of the dikes. A temporary silt fence will be placed along the clearing limits separating the dike from the marsh. 12,090 linear feet of silt fence will be placed. 31 Acres at Disposal Area 284 and 17 acres at Disposal Area 300 are to be cleared. The approved material that is cleared will be disposed of by burning within the diked areas. All non-vegetative debris and other materials encountered such as concrete shall be removed from the site. The contractor will be responsible for obtaining a burn permit from the NC Division of Forest Resources, Brunswick County. The contract issued will be Firm Fixed Price. The Magnitude of Construction of this project is $250,000 - $500,000. The estimated period of performance for the contract is 90 days.
