Description
The goal of the caLIMS2 Project is to produce an open access, near commercial grade Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is caBIG standards compliant. The LIMS will allow: a) management of laboratory personnel, equipment, inventory, samples and documents; b) adaptive workflow; c) integration with laboratory equipment and software; and d) generation of standard and custom reports. The objective is the ongoing development of caLIMS2. The initial focus of the contract will be on the development of the web-based application and user interface, with the revision of caLIMS2 components as needed. As the scientific community begins to better understand cancer at the molecular level, and personalized medicine is implemented in cancer patient care, researchers and clinicians will require more rapid access to - and easier methods to analyze - the multiple types of information involved. To this end, the vision of caBIG® is a full cycle of integrated cancer research, extending from bench to bedside, and back again. The need to capture relevant information includes tracking what happens to patient samples and data at the laboratory level. caBIG® tools currently exist for Clinical Trials implementation and monitoring, biospecimen storage and tracking, data repository management, and data analysis. However caBIG® lacks an application to track what happens to patient samples and data at the laboratory level. caLIMS2 will fill that gap to help complete the bench to bed model. See RFP for further details
