Description
NASA/LaRC is hereby soliciting information about potential sources to supplyprimary components for space-based mechanisms related to science data collectioninstruments and gimbals for instrument pointing applications.NASA is currently conducting market research to identify firms with specialized expertisein the design, analysis, and fabrication of components for space-based mechanisms.Examples of primary components include:1)Motors2)Bearings3)Shaft angle sensors4)Twist capsule / cable wrap units5)Launch lock-release mechanisms and actuators6)Motor drive, shaft angle sensor processing, and lock-release mechanismelectronicsTypical SpecificationsThe following specifications are preliminary and therefore subject to change. Thespecifications are intended to depict the general performance envelope for a variety ofanticipated mechanisms. 1.Angular range of motion: up to +/- 180 degrees2.Angular rates: up to 5 degrees/sec3.Angular acceleration: up to 1 deg/sec24.Load inertias: up to 20 kg-m25.Power:up to 100 W peakRespondents should have demonstrated capability and experience in the design, analysis, fabrication, and testing of components for space applications. When responding to thisnotice, respondents shall address their capabilities and experience in the areas listedbelow.Respondents shall emphasize how their stated capabilities and experience relateto the specific performance requirements and challenges associated with developingcomponents for space applications. Respondents shall list specific missions where theirhardware has flown if publically available. Respondents may offer responses to any or allof the following:Design, assembly, and test of:a)High-torque low-speed brushless DC motorsb)Stepper motorsc)Low-noise, low-runout bearings for rotating assembliesd)Shaft angle sensors with 16-bit or better resolutione)Twist capsules/cable wrap capable of carrying power as well as analog and digitalsignals across rotating interfacesf)Non-pyrotechnic launch lock-release mechanisms-actuatorsg)Motor drive, shaft angle sensor processing, and/or release mechanism electronics, boxes, and cablingVendors having the capabilities necessary to provide the stated components are invited tosubmit appropriate documentation, literature, brochures, and references. In addition toaddressing the areas noted above, responses must also include the following: name andaddress of firm, size of business per NAICS code (i.e. large or small); average annualrevenue for past 3 years and number of employees; business status: small disadvantaged,8(a), HUBZone, and/or woman-owned; number of years in business; list of customerscovering the past three years (explain relevant work performed and identify: contractnumbers, contract type, dollar value of each contract; and customer point of contactincluding address, email address and phone number). No solicitation exists; therefore, do not request a copy of the solicitation. If asolicitation is released it will be synopsized in FedBizOpps and on the NASA AcquisitionInternet Service. It is the potential offeror(s) responsibility to monitor these sitesfor the release of any solicitation or synopsis.Technical questions should be directed to: Barry Dunn at: barry.j.dunn@nasa.gov. Procurement related questions should be directed to: Mr. Brad Gardner at:Robert.B.Gardner@nasa.gov. Please advise if the requirement is considered to be acommercial or commercial-type product.A commercial item is defined in FAR 2.101. Thissynopsis is for information and planning purposes and is not to be construed as acommitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for information solicited. Respondents will not be notified of the results of the evaluation. Respondents deemedfully qualified will be considered in any resultant solicitation for the requirement. The Government reserves the right to consider a small business or 8(a) set-aside based onresponses hereto. All responses shall be emailed to Mr. Brad Gardner no later than March31st, 2010.
