- Description
- The DoD High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) annually assesses the high performance computing requirements of the DoD Research and Development and Test and Evaluation communities. These requirements facilitate the definition of services the HPCMP provides to these communities in the form of high performance computing capability by mapping user computational applications to the stated HPC requirements. These requirements by application are used for a variety of purposes but most significantly as the foundation for a set of application performance benchmarks that represent the program's total computational workload. Additionally, synthetic benchmark performance measurements are used to construct performance models of applications that can be used to predict performance of these applications on specific HPC system architectures. The HPCMP uses both application benchmarks and performance modeling to determine the optimum set of HPC systems to acquire each year. The HPCMP plans to conduct a two-day HPC Performance Modeling Workshop. The purpose of this workshop is to share with the community of HPC original equipment manufacturers, software developers and other communities constructing and using HPC system performance models and benchmarks the approach the HPCMP uses to measure HPC system performance. A general session with all interested parties will be provided to present overall performance modeling and benchmarking techniques, followed by optional individual sessions with each interested party to discuss in more specific detail performance modeling and benchmarking on HPC systems of their interest. Although these practices are used as a part of the evaluation during HPCMP HPC system acquisitions, this workshop is not directly associated with a specific HPCMP acquisition. The workshop is scheduled for 11-12 May 2010. The general location for the workshop will be in the Washington DC or surrounding area but the facility location will not be determined until the level of interest is determined. Please contact Dr. Larry Davis with the name, company/agency affiliation and title of each individual that would potentially participate in the workshop. Dr. Davis' email and phone number are larryd@hpcmo.hpc.mil and 703-812-8205. Please respond not later than 9 April 2010. Shortly after that deadline, respondents will be contacted and provided with the facility location and other logistical details.
