Description
Argonne National Laboratory 200 Area Central Chilled Water Plant General Contractor Prequalification Project Overview As part of the Department of Energy's (DoE) facility enhancements, Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) plans to construct a new Central Chilled Water Plant (CCWP). The mission of the CCWP is to provide water cooling to the next generation computer systems at the Theory and Computer Science (TCS) Building in addition to cooling loads distributed through the 200 Area of ANL. The CCWP will be an approximately 11,800 gross square feet (GSF) one-story facility with partial basement. This phase of the facility will house at a minimum of two (2) 1300-ton chillers with potential to add a third 1300-ton chiller. The facility has the potential to be expanded in future phases to an ultimate chilled water capacity of 17,000 tons. Safety is of paramount importance in the construction and operation of the CCWP. The CCWP project team is dedicated to a construction safety goal of zero lost workday cases. Safe work practices will be integrated into all aspects of the construction process. Due to the specialized nature of the facility, and the fact that proper construction phase implementation is fundamental to the mission of the facility, ANL will implement a prequalification process to ensure invited general contractors have the requisite capabilities and experience, as determined by ANL. A key focus of ANL's evaluation will be a contractor's track record of successfully completing projects similar to the CCWP as described above.
