- Description
- Letter of Intent Industry Day Announcement "The Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) in collaboration with the US Army will conduct a Competition (with a cash prizes for the winner/s) in order to foster the ability to clear training ranges of debris and unexploded ordnance (UXO) using robotic technologies. Experience to date with robotic range clearance suggests a significant potential for time and cost savings as well as increases in the safety for the personnel conducting this activity. The ultimate aim is to return to productive use the millions of acres currently encumbered with spent training rounds and debris. The Department of Defense (DoD) intends for this Competition to result in viable systems that can be procured and placed into service clearing ranges. Given the expressed industry interest and capability, the Competition event will be preceded by a qualification requirement. Competitors looking to compete for the cash prize must first demonstrate a viable robotic system capable of safely executing tasks inherent in clearing UXO ranges. Assuming a sufficient quantity of competitors qualify to participate in the Competition, the DoD will award $2M in cash prizes against the various competition categories and pursue a separate procurement contract to purchase robotic range clearance systems or services. Both the qualification trials and the Competition will be held at Camp Guernsey, WY. An Industry Day for the Competition will be held on Thursday, 10 December in Building 9706 at Tyndall AFB, FL. Information will be provided by DoD relating to the conduct of the Competition to include the provisional Rules and Metrics of the Competition, the follow on IDIQ contract, and robotic demonstrations related to UXO clearance. The agenda will include a Competition Overview, plans for the follow on IDIQ contract, a range clearance process overview, logistics information about Camp Guernsey, a review of the provisional Rules and Scoring Criteria associated with the Competition, robotic demonstrations related to UXO clearance, and a tour of AFRL Robotics Range Clearance systems. Space will also be provided if attendees would like to distribute information on their company. Pre-registration is required by Thursday, 3 December, and can be done through the following website: www.roboticrangeclearance.com. Additional information including directions shall be provided through the website. Any questions should be directed through the website. Letters of Intent (LOI) to compete in the Robotic Range Clearance Competition are available on this FBO announcement and the following website: www.roboticrangeclearane.com. LOIs are required in order to compete and must be submitted no later than 5:00 PM (Eastern) 3 May 10. LOIs should be submitted to Bruce Donalin via e-mail ( bruce.donlin.ctr@osd.mil ) or fax (703) 695-3063.
