Description
This is a request for information only, as part of a market research study. There is no solicitation package available. The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Lakehurst is seeking sources that may be capable of producing a pneumatically powered, non-robotic, mechanical arm sanding system with an integrated vacuum to capture all dust contaminants from the sanding process at the point of use. The system must be capable of being used on both composite and aluminum body aircraft. The system must be able to perform to the following: •At least 3X faster than manual sanding •Operate with minimal operator fatigue •Consistent and controllable pressure on the surface being sanded •Smoother and more consistent finish than manual sanding •Achieve consumables cost reduction by at least 50% over manual sanding (i.e. abrasive disc life extended) •Decreased risk of “scalloping” surfaces being sanded •Minimal operator vibration exposure to hands or risk of trauma due to high grip forces •Must contain an integrated vacuum system with the ability to remove up to 90% of dusts that are captured immediately •The operator must be physically separated from the sanding wheel •Sanding dust must be captured in a enclosed vacuum system. •The system must operate within the guidelines of the Department of the Navy TOXIC/HEAVY METALS EXPOSURE COMPLIANCE PROGRAM (THMECP) All interested parties should send company and/or descriptive literature as well as any comments or questions to Ms. Michelle Prinston, Phone: 732-323-1192, email: Michelle.Prinston@navy.mil address: Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Contracts, Code 2.5.2.2.3 B562-3, Hwy 547, Lakehurst, NJ 08733-5082. All responses should be received no later than 4:00 PM EST, 26 May 2010. All questions and comments must be in writing, no telephone calls.
