Description
Questions & Answers 07/21/10 1.1.2 Bid Item: Foundation Excavation 1.1.2.1 Measurement Foundation Excavation will be measured for payment by the use of the average end area method. The basis of measurement will be the BC survey of the area prior to the foundation excavation and following the clearing and grubbing operation and a second survey at the same cross section locations after the completion of the Foundation Excavation. Slides caused by the fault of the Contractor, over excavation, and excavation performed for the convenience of the Contractor will not be measured for payment. Foundation Excavation includes removal of the existing levee down to the Foundation Excavation line. 35 41 00 - 4 Amendment 0001 Question: Will be excavating into the existing levee to get the foundation excavated? Are we allowed to dig into the existing levee during phase I? Answer: Specification Section 35 41 00 paragraph 1.7.1 states that construction activities in Phase I are limited between stations 7+50 and 18+50, which does not allow foundation excavation into the existing levee. 3.6.3 Existing Levee The existing levee shall not be removed until the new levee is completed and approval given by the Contracting Officer. This process involves an additional approval by the Central Valley Flood Protection Board and their approval process cannot be predicted. This could take as long as 60 days and more. The Contractor shall be prepared for shutting down operations for this time period. Following Contracting Officer approval, the existing levee shall be removed to the lines and grades as shown on the Contract Drawings. In areas where 35 41 00 - 14 Amendment 0001 Question: Will the contractor get a time extension if for this process if it takes more than 30 days? Will the contractor get a time extension if for this process if it takes more than 60 days? How will this process revise our time to complete. Answer: The contractor will get a time extension if this process takes more than 60 days. The total period of service will be extended in accordance with how much additional time over 60 days is required for the CVFPB approval process of the new levee.
