Description
The USDA, Agricultural Research Service intends to issue and award to the Perten Instruments North America Inc., Springfield, Illinois on a sole source basis. Award will be made pursuant to 41 U.S.C.253(c)(1)--Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. The U.S. Department of Agriculture proposes to sole source purchase the Perten Rapid Visco Analyser Super4 (RVA-Super4) and Starch Sachets Calibration Check, 10 pack, 6g per sachet. Description of Supplies/Services: A rapid viscoamylograph (RVA) is needed to analyze the viscosity and pasting properties of rice products as well as hydrocolloids. Pasting properties can vary with the geometry of different spindles between instruments from different companies. For consistency of data, it is important to purchase an RVA-Super4, since we have studied viscosity and pasting profiles of modified rice products with an RVA 3D for many years. It is important that this instrument also has the ability to analyze smaller sample sizes than other instruments. It typically uses 2 to 3 g of modified rice products or flours in a total weight of 28 g of hydrated sample. The pasting temperature profile for rice flour is only 12.5 min so the analysis is fast and is an accepted AACC method. RVA Super4 reads the lowest viscosity range on the market of 10 centipoise and can read up to -17,500 centipoise at 160 RPM. It has to be able to perform the following methods. AACC 61-02 AACC 22-08 AACC 76-21 The RVA Super4 uses disposable aluminum sample containers with propeller blades. Temperature Range: 0 - 99.9ºC. Heating/Cooling Rate: Up to 14ºC/minute (infinitely variable). Shall be delivery FOB to the USDA, ARS, SRRC, New Orleans, Louisiana. Responses are to be received within 5 days of this notice. The NAICS Code/Size is 334516. This procurement will be processed pursuant to FAR part 12, Acquisition of Commercial Items. No telephone inquiries will be accepted. No solicitation will be issued. Questions can be e-mailed ida.lirette@ars.usda.gov.
