- Description
- RECOVERY NASA LaRC awarded a fixed-price contract to the National Institute ofAerospace for an effort entitled Complexity Science and Technology Tools for NextGenAirspace Research and Applications. The total award amount for this competitive actionwas $520,539 which is funded by the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) fundsin the amount of $520,539. This award results from a competitive selection under theNational Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Headquarters released NASA ResearchAnnouncement (NRA) for foundational research in support of the Aeronautics ResearchMission Directorate (ARMD), entitled 'Research Opportunities in Aeronautics (ROA) 2009under NNH09ZEA001N, Appendix c.4, NextGen Airspace Project, Subtopic 1:NextGen-AirspaceProject Technologies: Predictive Modeling and Analysis in Support of Deeper Assessment ofSystem Safety and Risks for NextGen Concepts. The NextGen-Airspace Project works inclose collaboration with the NextGen-Airportal Project to conduct Airspace and Airportalfoundational research and discipline-based technology. The NextGen-Airspace Projectdevelops and explores fundamental concepts and integrated solutions that address theoptimal allocation of ground and air automation technologies necessary for nextgeneration air transportation system (NextGen). The Project will focus NASAs technicalexpertise and world-class facilities to address the questions of where, when, how and towhat extent automation can be applied to moving aircraft safely and efficiently throughthe National Airspace System (NAS). The Projects research will develop and testconcepts for advanced traffic flow management to provide trajectory planning andexecution across the spectrum of time horizons from strategic planning to separationassurance.
