Description
This is modification 1 to the combined synopsis entitled, DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF3D WOVEN NEXTEL PANELS, Solicitation NNC10343135R which was posted on August 19, 2010.Companies shall acknowledge all amendment(s) in their quote. This notice serves as theofficial amendment to subject synopsis/RFQ and a written amendment will not be issued. The purpose of this amendment is to post a question and the answer regarding SolicitationNNC10343135R. Question: 1. What is the required through-thickness strength and in-plane strength. 2. What are the fiber volume fractions in the X and Y directions. Answer:1. The government desires the fibers in the X and Y direction to be roughly balanced(approximately equal amounts). The Government desires to have enough fibers in the Zdirection to provide improved impact resistance (vs a 2D lay-up). Architectures that willhelp NASA obtain relatively smooth composite (oxide/oxide) surfaces are desirable. Firmsare asked to provide designs/drawings for specific architectures (2.5/3D), based onarchitectures they have developed and demonstrated in the past. The Government willevaluate the designs on their merits against the stated requirements. The Government expects the firms to offer ideas and tell us what they can about theweaves they propose. The Government does not know design stresses (and required compositestrengths) at this point for the component of interest, as they havent been determined. The final design of the component will be dependent on the properties that we can achievein the composite materials. The properties of the composites (oxide/oxide ceramic matrixcomposites) will be determined through testing of coupons/panels made with these weaves.Firms should provide their approach to fulfill the requirement against the statedrequirements.
