Description
RESPONSE TO QUESTIONS RECEIVED. QUESTION 1: Specification Section "Part 3-Execution": 3.2 Wiring # 3 states: "All conductors shall be installed in rigid, threaded conduits throughout?" Please clarify that the intent is to install all fire alarm wiring in "rigid threaded" conduit not "rigid" conduit such as EMT with screw or compression fittings. The use of rigid threaded conduit is not normally specified for fire alarm systems in schools, businesses or healthcare institutes. Typically it is used in industrial applications such as mining or manufacturing where the risk of damage is much higher. The requirement for rigid "threaded" conduit will add significantly to the cost of this project. RESPONSE: NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code Handbook does allow for Rigid threaded conduit. RFI is verified QUESTION 2: Specification section 2.2 "Indicating Devices" # 3 requires strobes in bathrooms be equiped with 75 candella strobes and strobes in "all other areas" shall have strobes rated at 100 candella. Section 4.28.3 of ADA for Visual Alarms requires a minimum intensity of 75 candella. Strobe devices typically specified for projects such as these are rated 15/75 Candella. These devices provide 75 candella "on axis" fullfilling the specified requirement. ADA requires that room coverage candella requirements are related to room size. Providing 100 candella strobes in "all other areas" will exceed most room requirements for this project. Can we provide strobes with coverage as required by ADA or do we need to stick with the specified 100CD in "all other areas" ? RESPONSE: NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code Handbook does allow 15/75 Candella for ADA. RFI is approved.
